Dresden's train station is set for a revitalization project

Dresden residents are given a unique opportunity to participate in the decision-making process for the redesign of the city's main station forecourt. The event, scheduled to take place on-site on Thursday, September 21, from 4 to 6 pm, invites locals to share their ideas and suggestions for the proposed redesign.

The main station, often considered the calling card of the city, is set for a makeover, with a focus on the eastern area, particularly under the bridge. The redesign aims to improve the area for both travelers and the upcoming influx of people during the BUGA, a major horticultural show.

The SPD, Dresden's Social Democratic Party, has submitted a resolution to the city council that includes suggestions for drinking fountains, seating options, and artistic design. Greenery is also a key element of the proposed redesign, with the potential to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area during the BUGA.

The current state of the forecourt is a concern, with many travelers avoiding it due to its perceived darkness and dirtiness during the day. The SPD is calling for more immediate action, as the city's current concept plans for a redesign in 2035.

Dresden's Mayor, Dirk Hilbert, has been asked about the SPD proposals for the redesign of the station forecourt. The event is part of the ongoing process of redesigning the main station forecourt and is likely to provide an opportunity for residents to discuss their ideas for the lighting, signage, security, drinking fountains, seating options, artistic design, and greenery in the redesign.

Residents are encouraged to attend and contribute to the redesign process, ensuring that their voices are heard in shaping the future of one of Dresden's most iconic locations.
