Driving Force for Achievement

In the bustling heart of Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health, there's a woman who acts as both the face and the force behind one of the university's busiest offices. Her name is Donna Sims, a dedicated executive assistant who brings warmth, insight, and unwavering dedication to everything she does.

Donna Sims, a native of Baltimore, began her career at Johns Hopkins in 1983. Her initial inspiration came from a young encounter with the university's distinctive architecture. However, it was her grandmother, who worked as a housekeeper at Johns Hopkins Hospital, who truly instilled in her a long-lasting connection and motivation to work there herself.

Over the years, Donna has proven to be a mentor, a leader, and a problem-solver par excellence. She was recruited into the Administrative Development Program, one of the inaugural participants, and has since embraced new challenges, mentored colleagues, and taken on leadership roles, including her recent promotion to supervisor.

Outside of work, Donna is actively involved in her church, currently serving as the secretary for the greeters ministry. Her interpersonal skills are one of her biggest strengths, being known as someone who can "work her magic" in difficult situations. This was evident when she had a moment of pride in helping an international student who was considering suicide, having an open and personal conversation with her.

At work, Donna is a stickler for excellence, setting the bar higher than expected when given a task. She is a good communicator, being intuitive and analytical in her approach. This has made her a sought-after mentor, providing supportive guidance while encouraging new ideas and avoiding micromanagement.

In her personal life, Donna Sims enjoys traveling and has recently discovered that she can travel alone. She plans to go to a different location abroad every year. This adventurous spirit is a testament to her resilience and adaptability, traits that have served her well in her career at Johns Hopkins.

In her own words, Donna views her role as essential to the functioning of the Johns Hopkins community. "We make up this big happy Hopkins family," she says. "Everyone is important, no matter who you are." This sentiment echoes throughout the university, where Donna Sims continues to make a lasting impact.

Currently, Donna Sims is enrolled in the Supervisor Development Program at Johns Hopkins, furthering her education and honing her skills to better serve the university community. As she continues to grow and evolve, one thing remains certain: Donna Sims will continue to be a beacon of warmth, dedication, and excellence at Johns Hopkins University.
