Drone Collision at Southern Israel Airport Caused by Military Craft
In an unprecedented incident, a drone strike was reported near Ramon Airport in southern Israel on a recent day. According to Israeli military sources, the drone is believed to have originated from Yemen.
The Houthi militia, based in Yemen, swiftly claimed responsibility for the attack in the evening, with Brigade General Yahya Saree, the spokesperson for the militia, announcing that the operations targeted Israeli military sites in the Negev and Umm al-Rashrash. The militia claimed that hypersonic ballistic missiles and drones were used, with Ramon Airport being successfully hit by one of the drones.
Following the incident, the airspace over Ramon Airport was closed to traffic. Reports suggest that one person was lightly injured, as per Israeli news portal "ynet". A spokesman for the Yemeni Houthi militia confirmed that one drone directly hit Ramon Airport.
It's important to note that the Israeli army stated there was no rocket alert regarding the incident. This is in line with the ongoing pattern of attacks by the Houthi militia, who have been regularly attacking Israel with rockets and drones since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
Israel has responded to these attacks with air strikes on targets in Yemen. In a recent air strike, Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahaui, nine of his ministers, and two other Houthi representatives were killed.
The Houthi militia has expressed its solidarity with the Islamic Hamas through its attacks on Israel. However, the militia's methods have faced criticism, with concerns over the potential escalation of the conflict and the risk to civilian lives.

In a separate incident, a rocket fired by the Houthi militia struck near Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv at the beginning of May. The Israeli aviation authority stated that the arrival hall was hit. Previously, the army had reported that three drones launched from Yemen had been intercepted by air defense.
As the situation continues to develop, it is crucial to stay informed and vigilant. The safety and security of both Israeli and Yemeni citizens remain a top priority.
