Drug-related confession implicated in Matthew Perry's demise, as admitted by accused dealer.
In a California court, the "Ketamine Queen," identified as Jasveen S., pleaded guilty to supplying the anesthetic ketamine that led to the death of "Friends" star Matthew Perry in October 2023.
Perry, aged 54, was found dead in his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023, in a hot tub. The actor had struggled with addiction, a fact he had spoken about publicly.
The "Ketamine Queen" was arrested in August 2024, and her guilty plea occurred in the same month. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped some charges, avoiding a trial.
The 42-year-old woman faces a maximum sentence of 65 years in prison, with the sentence to be announced in December.
Reports suggest that Perry obtained the substance on the black market, a first in this case. It's worth noting that ketamine, a substance that has been a reliable anesthetic for decades, has been linked to illegal use as a club drug by some partygoers.
Interestingly, Perry underwent ketamine therapy for depression and anxiety under medical supervision. However, it's unclear whether the ketamine he received from the "Ketamine Queen" was obtained through legal channels.
Two doctors, an assistant, and a friend of the actor were also arrested after Perry's death. Four of these individuals have already admitted to providing Perry with ketamine.
Ketamine can also be used to treat certain individuals with treatment-resistant depression under specific conditions. It's a double-edged sword, a powerful drug that, when misused, can have fatal consequences, as seen in Perry's case.
The sentencing for Jasveen S. is scheduled for December 2025. Sentences for the other individuals involved are expected to be handed down in the coming months.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of substance misuse and the importance of seeking help through legal and medically supervised channels.
