Duisburg/Cologne: 47-year-old individual reported missing in Baden-Rhine area
In a tragic turn of events, a 47-year-old man from Cologne has been found deceased following a three-day search operation in the Rhine at Rodenkirchen.
The incident occurred on August 11, when the man, along with his wife and two sons, visited the riverside at Rheinkilometer 682.3. While swimming, the father and one of his children got caught in a strong current. The boy managed to save himself and return to the shore, but the father was swept away.
An extensive search operation was initiated immediately, involving the Cologne Fire Department, Police, Water Police, a police helicopter, a diving group, and the German Lifeboat Association. Chaplains also provided support to the family members during this difficult time.
Despite the intense search efforts, the father has not been found until August 13, when his body was recovered from the Rhine near Voerde. The body was identified on August 14.
The search operation was a testament to the dedication and hard work of all the emergency services involved. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.
