Duisburg's Initial Analogue Day Event

Saturday, September 27, is a day dedicated to the joy of analog living. The 1st Duisburger Analog Day will take place at the city window on Steinische Gasse and the nearby VHS factory, offering a unique opportunity for the community to immerse themselves in a world of manual skills and tactile experiences.

This event is more than just a celebration of traditional crafts. It's a chance for career changers to explore new paths beyond the realm of craft professions. The job center will be on hand to offer advice and guidance for those seeking to embark on a new journey.

The written word takes centre stage during the event, with a focus on calligraphic handwriting and writing one's own texts in the age of AI. The VHS offers a variety of courses, including handwriting, pottery, carpentry, goldsmithing, drawing, painting, and more, providing an opportunity to reconnect with the art of the written word.

For those with a mathematical bent, analog aids such as the abacus and slide rules will be presented. Visitors can try their hand at these traditional tools, offering a fascinating glimpse into the past and a chance to appreciate the ingenuity of these devices.

The Duisburger Yacht Club will provide an introduction to important knots for sailing and mountaineering, essential skills for those who love the outdoors. If you've ever wondered about the secrets of knot-tying, this is the perfect opportunity to learn.

For the entrepreneurially minded, an "elevator pitch" station will be available. This one-minute challenge offers a chance to test your persuasive skills and hone your pitch for potential investors.

Registration for the workshops is required via the event calendar of the city library. The city library, a hub of knowledge and creativity, boasts a comprehensive range of media on these topics and also lends out musical instruments and board games.

Upcycling workshops will transform discarded dishes into trendy étagères and bird feeders, demonstrating the beauty that can be found in reusing and repurposing.

Music lovers will be delighted by several workshops dedicated to mixing music from vinyl records. Initial playing attempts can be made on musical instruments at the music school's instrument carousel in the city window.

Lastly, a workshop called "Quick Needles" will teach people how to knit or crochet, offering a chance to learn a new skill and create something beautiful with your own hands.

Admission to the Analog Day is free, making it accessible to all. So, mark your calendars and join us on September 27 for a day filled with learning, creativity, and the joy of analog living.
