In the thrilling world of sailing, nine boats are set to embark on an epic journey as they participate in the Team Next Generation Boating - Around the World. Among these, the young German duo of Lennart Burke (26) and Melwin Fink (23) are making waves, being the youngest crew in the competition.
Joachim Wuennig (Leonberg) and Sebastian Dziwisch (Fehmarn), the boat owners, are also part of the event, sailing the Globe40 racing yacht. This vessel, designed for long-distance sailing, will only accommodate two more sailors during the first section of the world circumnavigation.
The competition begins with a prologue leading to Cádiz, where Burke and Fink, who run a shipyard together, have announced their intention to attack from the start. They have set their sights on a podium finish, a goal that Burke himself described as "very nice."
Currently, Jonas Gerckens and Renaud Dehareng (Belgium) are ahead in the world circumnavigation. However, Burke and Fink are not deterred, demonstrating determination and resilience that is characteristic of seasoned sailors.
The world circumnavigation will take the teams through several leg destinations, including Mindelo (Cape Verde), Réunion, Sydney, Valparaiso, and Recife. The final destination will be Lorient in April 2026, where the competition is set to conclude.
The French duo of Ian Lipinski and Antoine Carpentier are the top favourites in the competition. They have proven their mettle in previous sailing events and will undoubtedly be formidable opponents.
