Maximilianpark in Hamm Receives Third Star from IGA Metropole Ruhr 2027

In a significant recognition of its commitment to sustainability and innovation, the Maximilianpark in Hamm, Germany, has been awarded the maximum achievable third star by the IGA Metropole Ruhr 2027. This prestigious honour was bestowed upon the park during a Regional Forum held at the German Mining Museum Bochum on August 28, 2025.

The Maximilianpark first received a star in August 2020, and the Maxigarden within the park followed suit in November 2024. The Maxigarden was considered practically an IGA star project from the beginning, according to Maxipark Managing Director, Jörg Rogalla.

The awards were given to outstanding future projects in the fields of urbanism/architecture, landscape development, tourism, mobility, and energy. A total of 30 projects from cities within the Ruhrgebiet region were recognised for their forward-thinking plans and initiatives. The Canal Quarter project in Hamm, an existing project the city is actively working on, was also among the recipients, selected for its model character for the entire Ruhr metropolitan region.

The criteria for the awards included clear regional significance, strengthening of future gardens, demonstrated model character, a structured claim to sustainability, ecological, social, and economic quality, and innovative solutions that make the region more sustainable and livable. The Maximilianpark and the Canal Quarter project in Hamm were chosen based on these criteria.

The Maximilianpark was one of 15 projects recognised for its innovative ideas and green visions. The Canal Quarter project was also awarded for its model character for the entire Ruhr metropolitan region.
