Düsseldorf Bilk residents stand firm against AfD demonstration
In the heart of Düsseldorf, a protest took place before the AfD's scheduled podium discussion at the Bürgerhaus Bilk, located at the Düsseldorf Arcades. The event, organised by the alliance Düsseldorf stands up (DSSQ), saw several hundred protesters gather behind a barrier, voicing their opposition to the far-right party.
Messages of solidarity and resistance were projected onto the wall opposite the Bürger hall, creating a powerful visual display. The messages read, "No room for hate and incitement of the AfD", "Düsseldorf says no to the AfD and yes to democracy and diversity", "Refugees are welcome here! Bring your families", "All together against fascism", and "Who votes for the AfD votes for racism".
The AfD politicians participating in the discussion included Dr. Martin Vincentz, Kay Gottschalk, Tobias Ebenberger, Marco Vogt, and Andrea Kraljic. However, registration was mandatory for the event, and spontaneous participants were not allowed.
The organisation "Düsseldorf stellt sich quer" represented the protest's goal "All Together against Fascism" and has organised several protests against the AfD in Düsseldorf in the past. A large-format message was displayed on the wall, visibly expressing the opposition of Düsseldorf residents to the AfD.
During the protest, protesters expressed their opinions about the AfD with slogans and whistles. One message, in particular, stood out: "Refugees are welcome here! Bring your families". This message served as a stark reminder of the city's commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
As the AfD's podium discussion was scheduled to begin at 7 PM, the protest continued, with the messages visible outside the Bürgerhaus Bilk at the Düsseldorf Arcades. The event marked another instance of Düsseldorf residents standing up against the AfD, reaffirming their commitment to democracy, diversity, and unity.
