Dusseldorf Needs Extra Election Aides, 23rd February Remains the Target Date

The city of Düsseldorf is seeking volunteers to join the team of election helpers for the upcoming 21st German Bundestag election on February 23, 2025. Approximately 4,300 election helpers are needed in total to ensure a smooth and efficient voting process.

Election helpers play a crucial role in the election process. They are responsible for verifying the eligibility of voters, marking them in the voter registry, distributing ballots, and counting votes. Each polling station has its own electoral board, consisting of five to eight members.

On election day, election helpers will meet with the electoral board at 7:30 AM to prepare the polling station. The time allocation of election helpers is determined on-site by the electoral board.

Interested parties can register via email ([email protected]) or phone (0211-8993177) to become election helpers. The city is currently sending out appointment letters to interested parties.

A technical error resulted in 263 election helpers receiving their summons letter twice. Affected election helpers are asked to destroy the second copy of the appointment letter and only return the first signed copy.

The polling stations and the postal voting center will be located in various areas, including the exhibition hall, hall 6. More election helpers, particularly for the positions of leadership and record-keeping, are still needed. All eligible voters, i.e., all Germans aged 18 and above, can apply for this task.

The Office of Statistics and Elections offers training for interested parties. In Düsseldorf, the organization responsible for training election helpers is typically the local election office of the city of Düsseldorf. Training sessions and materials are offered by the city administration prior to the election, and registration usually opens several weeks to months before the election date.

For example, the city of Cologne offers various training formats and materials for election helpers, including guides and instructional videos, and provides contact details for questions and registration. However, registration deadlines may vary depending on demand.

Election helpers will receive compensation for their efforts. Further information can be found at the provided link.
