The Dutch government is currently in a state of political turmoil, following the resignations of Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp and State Secretary for Legal Protection Teun Struycken on 3 June.

Veldkamp's resignation was due to his inability to secure cabinet support for additional sanctions against Israel. In a statement, he cited "deteriorating conditions" in Gaza and the "risk of undesirable end use" as reasons for cancelling three export permits for naval ship components. Veldkamp was a member of the center-right New Social Contract party.

Struycken, who was involved in shaping gambling regulation in the Netherlands, also resigned as State Secretary for Legal Protection. His resignation leaves uncertainties for the Dutch gambling sector, as he had previously announced plans to abolish online gambling and had suggested that a new gambling bill was likely to be introduced by the end of the year. Potential measures under consideration included raising the minimum age for access to higher-risk products, such as online slots.

In a show of solidarity, all ministers and state secretaries from the New Social Contract party stepped down from the caretaker government following Struycken's resignation. This has left the Netherlands without a foreign minister, and without a direct successor or function related to the future regulation of gambling in the country.

The political uncertainty in the Netherlands comes at a time when the country is also facing security commitments to Ukraine and ongoing tariff negotiations with the United States. The European Union is also working through its own security commitments to Ukraine.

On a more positive note, Geert Wilders, leader of the far-right Party for Freedom, withdrew from a four-party coalition, leading to the calling for a snap election on 29 October. This could potentially bring about a change in the political landscape of the Netherlands and provide some clarity on the future of gambling legislations and foreign policy.

In conclusion, the resignations of Veldkamp and Struycken have left the Netherlands in a state of political uncertainty. The future of gambling legislations is uncertain, and the country is currently without a foreign minister. The snap election on 29 October could potentially bring about a change in the political landscape and provide some clarity on these issues.
