The technology landscape in India has taken a significant leap with the launch of the Wink e-Reader by EC Media International. This innovative electronic book device, designed specifically for book lovers, promises to transform the way Indians read and access literature.

The Wink e-Reader boasts an impressive array of features, making it a standout choice among its contemporaries. It supports 15 Indian languages, ensuring a wide range of reading material is accessible to users. The device comes with an onboard storage of 2GB, expandable to 16GB via MicroSD cards, providing ample space for a vast collection of e-books.

The Wink e-Reader operates on a Linux-based operating system and supports various document formats such as PDF, MS Word, RTF, HTML, and TXT, as well as image and audio files like JPEG, GIF, TIF, BMP, MP3, and AAC. This versatility makes it a comprehensive tool for reading and listening to a diverse range of content.

One of the most striking features of the Wink e-Reader is its battery life. It can last for 10,000 page turns on a single charge or 10 hours of music playback, ensuring uninterrupted reading and listening experiences. The device also supports WiFi (802.11b/g) and GPRS wireless features, allowing users to download content on the go.

In a bid to revolutionise the way news is consumed, EC Media has introduced the 'Wink Wire', an e-reader newspaper for news, marking a first in India. The Wink e-Reader provides access to newspapers, journals, magazine articles, and e-books from the Wink stores, making it a one-stop solution for all reading needs.

EC Media has partnered with renowned publishing houses like Penguin, Roli, Oxford University, Harper Collins, and several others to offer their books on the Wink. The company has also collaborated with international publishing houses such as J.H.W. Dietz, Droste, Grupello, Haupt, humboldt, and Reise Know-How to offer books on the Wink-e-Reader. As of the article, the Wink store has over 197,606 e-books.

While the Wink e-Reader shares a resemblance with the Kindle 2 in design, it is more expensive, priced at Rs. 11,500 (approximately 190 euros or $250). A 3G version of the Wink e-Reader is in development and will be released soon, offering users even more convenience and connectivity.

However, the Wink e-Reader is currently not available outside of India. For book lovers within the country, the Wink e-Reader will be available from September 1st at all Croma outlets in India.

With its extensive language support, versatile file format compatibility, long battery life, and partnerships with leading publishing houses, the Wink e-Reader is set to redefine the reading experience in India. Despite the new Kindle being cheaper, the Wink e-Reader offers a unique blend of features and content that makes it an attractive choice for book enthusiasts.
