Earthquakes in Segamat cause damage to schools, hospitals, and residences, as reported by Ahmad Maslan - an immediate financial aid of RM550,000 is required for urgent repairs.

In the district of Segamat, Malaysia, an allocation of RM550,000 has been requested for the repair of government buildings and schools due to six minor earthquakes since August 24, as stated by Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan during a meeting at the Segamat district public works (JKR) office.

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan addressed reporters during the meeting, informing them that the JKR's civil and structural engineering branch's forensic team has carried out safety inspections on the affected buildings. The affected buildings include educational institutions such as SJKC Kampung Tengah, SJKC HSA Nan, SMK Buloh Kasap, SK Kampung Jawa, SK Dato Wan Idris, and the Segamat District Community College, as well as key public facilities like the Segamat Hospital, Segamat Health Clinic, Batu Anam Health Clinic, Kampung Jabi Rural Clinic, Segamat district police quarters, Segamat district Kadi's office, and the JKR state quarters.

The repairs to these buildings are considered urgent and must be completed before the end of this year. The estimated repair costs for all affected government buildings in Segamat have been submitted to the respective ministries for funding allocation.

Building managements have been reminded to monitor their surroundings and report any new signs of damage. The damaged government buildings in Segamat have minor issues such as cracks in plaster surfaces, walls, and stretching between wall panels, columns, beams, and ceilings.

JKR has also conducted structural inspections and monitoring of assets and bridges along 325 kilometers of federal roads and 242.11 kilometers of state roads. However, the search results do not provide specific names of companies or authorities responsible for repair work on buildings damaged by the earthquake, nor do they specify how long the repairs are allowed to last.

It is common for engineering experts to apply structural reinforcement methods for earthquake-damaged buildings, such as installing shear walls, steel frames, facade stiffening, base isolation, and damping systems. The coordination of critical infrastructure protection involves government agencies like the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) in Germany, but no direct mention of repair timelines or responsible contractors for earthquake repairs was found.

As for private properties, a total of 62 houses and two suraus in the district have sustained damage, but repair work has yet to be determined. The affected buildings in Segamat require immediate attention to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
