East Africa school games conclude, with Kenyan athletes garnering notable victories.

In the thrilling conclusion of the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association games held in Kakamega, Kenya, local schools made a significant impact in both volleyball and handball competitions.

St Luke's Kimilili and Moi Girls Kamusinga emerged victorious in their respective handball finals. Kimilili, coached by Fernweck Opicho, celebrated a hard-fought victory over Adegi from Rwanda, winning 31-30. Moi Girls Kamusinga, on the other hand, recaptured the handball title they last won when Kenya hosted the games in Eldoret.

Fernweck Opicho, a renowned Kenyan football coach who manages Muhoroni Youth Football Club, was overjoyed at Kimilili's win. He stated that years of hard work and dedication had finally paid off.

In the girls' volleyball contest, Kwanthanze Secondary School clinched the title after defeating Kesogon Secondary School in a close match (25-23, 25-13, 25-18). The journey to the final was not easy for Kwanthanze, as they had to eliminate Cheptil High School, last year's winners from Burundi, in the semis. Cheptil High School, however, bounced back to win the other volleyball final against Namugongo Vocational College from Uganda (3-2).

St Joseph's Girls High School Kitale secured the third-place match in volleyball, defeating Kawanda Secondary School from Uganda (25-13). Meanwhile, Highway Secondary School won the third-place match against Bombo Army Secondary School from Uganda (28-26).

Soweto Academy and Bishop Sulumeti fought for the fourth place in the girls' volleyball contest. Soweto Academy won the first set (26-24), but Bishop Sulumeti came back strong to win the match (3-1).

The victories in volleyball and handball were met with celebrations from Kenyan sports enthusiasts, marking a successful outing for the local teams at the East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association games. St Luke's Kimilili ended a six-year wait to recapture the regional handball title, while Kwanthanze Secondary School brought home the girls' volleyball trophy.
