Eastward O-Train Extension Subjected to Performance Evaluation during Weekend of September 13-14
The O-Train Line 1 is gearing up for an exciting phase as it prepares for pre-trial and trial running periods on the extended line between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair Station.
During the pre-trial running period, 23 trains will operate between Tunney's Pasture and Trim stations, ensuring the system and stakeholders are ready for the trial running. This phase is crucial in validating that the extended line functions as intended.
The eastern extension is expected to replace approximately 28,000 hours of bus service a year, with buses in the east being modified to improve connections to local communities and Line 1 service at Montreal, Jeanne d'Arc, Convent Glen, Place d'Orleans, and Trim stations.
Station occupancy for the East stations is expected to be completed by the end of September, and the hiring of new Electric Rail Operators and their familiarization training is currently underway.
A key test for the O-Train eastern extension is scheduled during the second weekend of September. This test includes four key milestones: Testing and Commissioning, Performance Test, Substantial Completion, and Pre-Trial running.
The Performance Test, expected to be held on the weekend of Sept. 13-14, will be a significant step towards the opening of the light-rail transit line between Blair Station and Trim Station later this year. However, during the Performance Test, O-Train Line 1 will be out of service between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations.
Customers in the east will have the option to connect to the O-Train at a nearby Line 1 station or continue to Blair Station by bus and transfer to Line 1 during the interim bus service period. Passengers will have to disembark at Blair Station prior to the trains continuing to the east extension during the pre-trial and trial running periods.
Integration of communication systems for the East extension with the existing live systems on Line 1 is progressing well and is expected to be completed by the end of September.
OC Transpo also plans to continue running buses along the O-Train East extension once it opens. Bus network modifications will be made as part of a following seasonal service change.
Following the successful completion of pre-trial running, the trial running evaluation period will be held to validate the full integrated system functions as intended. The planned date for Troy Charter, the General Manager for Transit Services, to conduct test runs of the O-Train Line 1 East expansion section is September 15, 2025.
As of now, twenty-seven of the 38 LRVs for Stage 2 have been delivered and accepted by the city, with four additional vehicles at various stages of testing and acceptance. The O-Train Line 1 will run as scheduled on the existing line between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair Station during the pre-trial and trial running periods.
The city is one step closer to a fully operational O-Train Line 1, extending service to the east, providing a more efficient and reliable transportation solution for residents and commuters.
