The Edmonton Elks secured a hard-fought victory against the Ottawa Redblacks in a game filled with exciting plays and strong performances.

Quarterback Cody Fajardo was the star of the show, leading the team with an impressive display in the first half. He passed for over 300 yards, setting the tone for the Elks' offensive onslaught. Fajardo also bounced back from a previous setback to get another field goal before the half ended, giving the Elks a substantial lead.

Fajardo's running back, Justin Rankin, contributed with 94 yards from scrimmage, including 36 rushing and 58 receiving. Kurleigh Gittens Jr., known as "Predator", continued his stellar season with 454 yards receiving through 10 games, and led the team in receiving with six receptions on six targets, totaling 38 yards in the fourth quarter.

The Elks offense has shown significant improvement under rookie defensive coordinator JC Sherritt, with the second and third drives of the game being well managed and well executed. The special teams unit also shone, with Vincent Blanchard averaging 69 yards on kickoffs and Mark Kilam's blocking significantly improving the unit's performance.

Noah Taylor, a defensive lineman for the Elks, had a standout game with four tackles, including two sacks. The Elks defense was relentless, recording three sacks and three tackles for a loss in the game. Global Alex Raich and Brock Mogenson made powerful special teams tackles, while Ayinde Eley intercepted a pass that would have likely resulted in a Redblacks touchdown.

Javon Leake scored his second punt return touchdown of the 2025 season, an 80-yard scamper that further extended the Elks' lead. In the fourth quarter, Fajardo led a four-minute drive for a touchdown and a brilliant two-minute drive for a game-sealing field goal.

The Elks will face two challenging games against the Calgary Stampeders in the upcoming Labour Day series. The offensive coordinator responsible for the recent winning streak is Jordan Maksymic. DK Bonhomme, known as "Predator", continues to rack up tackles on special teams, adding another layer of depth to the Elks' impressive performance.
