Elderly Driver Suffers Severe Injuries, Now in Hospital Care (Police Statement)
In the evening of August 30, a traffic accident occurred at the intersection in front of the police station in Troisdorf, Germany. The incident involved a patrol car and a VW Polo driven by a 75-year-old man from Troisdorf.
According to initial findings and witness statements, the accident occurred due to the elderly driver stopping his car after seeing the approaching patrol car with flashing lights and sirens. After the first patrol car passed the intersection, the 75-year-old started driving again and collided with a second patrol car.
The second patrol car was a Mercedes Vito driven by a 42-year-old police officer. The 42-year-old driver of the Mercedes Vito tried to swerve onto the opposite lane but couldn't avoid the collision. As a result, both vehicles, with a total damage of more than 10,000 euros, were not drivable and had to be towed away.
Unfortunately, the 75-year-old driver was severely injured and taken to the hospital. Two police officers, aged 37 and 42, were also injured and taken to the hospital, but their injuries were minor compared to the senior driver.
The further investigation into the cause of the accident will be conducted by the traffic division of the Bonn police. To ensure neutrality, police officers from Cologne have taken over the accident investigation.
