Elderly Man Receives Call, Leading to the Apprehension of Two Alleged Scam Artists.

On August 14, 2025, a chilling incident unfolded in the quiet town of Wallkofen, Landkreis Straubing-Bogen, when a 65-year-old woman received a cold call from an individual claiming to be a prosecutor from the Straubing District Court. The caller falsely claimed that her granddaughter had caused an accident and needed to post bail to avoid jail time.

The day's events took a dramatic turn at 4:15 PM, when a second staged handoff was set up at the woman's home. The police were alerted and sprang into action.

The investigations for this cold call scam are being handled by the Niederbayern Criminal Police Station and the Regensburg Public Prosecutor's Office. Thanks to the woman's quick thinking and the diligent work of the authorities, two suspected fraudsters were apprehended.

The first pick-up man, a 28-year-old Polish man, was stopped and checked by a patrol from the Neutraubling Police Station at the Rosenhof exit on the A3. The second pick-up man, a 48-year-old Polish man, was arrested by the police, driving a dark blue VW with a Polish license plate.

Mobile phones and SIM cards were seized during the temporary arrest of the second pick-up man. Arrest warrants were issued for the suspects on August 15, 2025, for suspicion of professional fraud as part of a criminal organization.

On the same day, the two suspects were presented to the Regensburg District Court. The Regensburg District Court and the Regensburg Public Prosecutor's Office are involved in the investigations.

Despite the search results not providing the names of the two Polish defendants arrested in connection with the case from the district of Straubing-Bogen, the arrests mark a significant step forward in the fight against such scams.

Both men were taken to prisons, and their arrests serve as a reminder to stay vigilant against such fraudulent activities. The authorities urge the public to report any suspicious calls or activities to the police immediately.
