The suspects, identified as Max Bauer, a 40-year-old known to the police, and Lisa Krüger, a 37-year-old Romanian man, were observed by the victim and subsequently targeted.
The incident unfolded when the strangers left a store where the woman was waiting on her mobility scooter. It was only after they had departed that the woman noticed her wallet missing from her bag. The police were promptly notified and initiated a search, managing to detain the two individuals based on a matching description.
The police are reminding the public to take extra precautions to secure their belongings. They advise against placing wallets on top of shopping bags, baskets, or carts, and instead suggest keeping them close to the body. Handbags and shoulder bags should be carried securely on the front of the body or held under the arm. For added security, using a money belt, belt pouch, or a wallet chained to the belt is recommended.
Furthermore, leaving handbags unattended in restaurants, shops, or stores should be avoided. It is crucial to keep money, checks, credit cards, and papers in securely closed inner pockets of clothing, close to the body. The police also urge people not to approach strangers who may be acting suspiciously.
The suspects were temporarily arrested and will be presented to a judge today. The police managed to recover the location of the suspects at Teutonenstraße. An earlier incident involved an elderly woman being followed by an unknown woman and a man at an ATM, but it is unclear if this is connected to the Lügallee incident.
