Election Season for SGA: Examining the Contenders!

Holy Cross Student Government Association (SGA) Elections: A Pivotal Moment for Students and Candidates Alike

The Student Government Association (SGA) at Holy Cross is gearing up for a new semester, offering first-year students like Darshan Prabaharan '28 and upperclassmen a chance to shape the community and gain valuable experiences.

The SGA election cycle for April 2021 marked the beginning of this exciting period. Candidates ran for positions in the SGA Class Councils, Senators-at-Large, Council, and Cabinet. The "Meet the Candidates" event, held virtually, provided an opportunity for students to learn about the candidates' visions and platforms.

For Prabaharan, SGA offers a platform to create a more diverse and inclusive environment at Holy Cross. He ran for Class of 2028 Vice President, expressing his desire to make Holy Cross a supportive and community-oriented experience for all students.

Upperclassmen were also given the chance to engage with SGA by filling positions left vacant during the Spring Election Cycle. Positions available for upperclassmen included Vice President for the Class of 2025, Secretary for the Class of 2026, and five Senator at Large positions.

Voting for these positions took place from September 25th to 27th, 2022, and could be done on myHC from smartphones. The newly elected Senate, as of 4/25/21, selected Helena Sabo as Speaker of the Senate, Sophia Fiordalice as Parliamentarian, and Sagar Patel as Sergeant-at-Arms.

In previous semesters, candidates for SGA elections have introduced themselves in person. However, the April 2021 elections, like many events, were held virtually due to the ongoing pandemic. Despite this change, Rogers, a current student, stated that the election provided him with the opportunity to make new connections with students from all class years.

For first-year students like Prabaharan, SGA elections serve as a pivotal moment for addressing the needs and aspirations of students, while also providing candidates with valuable experiences. The fall semester at Holy Cross is gaining momentum, offering new opportunities within the SGA.

Looking ahead, the SGA elections for the Spring 2025 semester are approaching. Candidates from the classes of 2024, 2023, and 2022 have already expressed their interest in running. As the election cycle unfolds, it remains to be seen who will step forward to lead the SGA and shape the Holy Cross community.

However, there are no search results providing information about the candidates who ran for the SGA president position for the class of 2027. Therefore, based on the available data, the names of the candidates who applied for the SGA presidency in the 2027 cohort are not found.

Regardless, the SGA elections continue to be a significant event in the Holy Cross community, offering students the chance to make their voices heard and contribute to the growth and development of the college.
