Emergency action triggered on TACV plane following an unexpected incident
TACV Resumes Domestic Flights Amid Operational Challenges
Cape Verde's national airline, TACV, has resumed its domestic flight services after a period of cancellations, marking a significant step towards restoring connectivity within the archipelago.
On the morning of the resumption, two aircraft safely landed at Nelson Mandela International Airport in Praia city. The first aircraft, a TACV flight from Fogo Island, touched down at 09:00 local time (11:00 in Lisbon), followed by a TACV flight from São Vicente Island at 13:00 local time (15:00 in Lisbon). All passengers were disembarked following standard security procedures.
However, TACV is currently grappling with operational problems and fleet limitations that have been causing cancellations in recent weeks, leaving passengers stranded on various islands. In response to these challenges, the airline has formed a team to investigate the causes of the incidents, known as the TACV Investigation Group.
In a statement, TACV admitted to some disruption in domestic operations in the coming hours and is working on a flight rescheduling plan. The Association of Travel Agencies and Tourism of Cabo Verde (AVECTUR) has expressed concerns about the repetition of inconveniences during peak periods, especially six days ago when the president of AVECTUR, Marvela Rodrigues, warned about the potential for these issues to recur.
The relevant authorities have been notified and are monitoring the process in accordance with applicable regulations. TACV is also in contact with affected passengers, providing "all necessary assistance."
It's important to note that TACV resumed domestic operations in 2024 after the problems encountered with the last service concession. The airline previously focused exclusively on international flights, but the resumption of domestic services is a crucial step towards strengthening the country's internal connectivity.
Despite the ongoing challenges, TACV remains committed to providing reliable and efficient services to its passengers. As the investigation continues, passengers are advised to stay informed about any updates regarding their flights.
