Erkrath Fire Department Responds to Three Incidents in a Single Day

On a busy day on May 24, 2025, the Erkrath Fire Department was called to respond to three incidents within a few hours. The incidents occurred at different locations across the town.

The day's events began at 14:23, with a kitchen fire in a multi-family building on Kreuzstraße in Alt-Erkrath. Upon arrival, the kitchen was fully engulfed in flames, but the resident had already evacuated, and no human rescue was necessary. The fire was brought under control and extinguished by a breathing apparatus team, and extensive ventilation measures were taken afterwards.

At 16:21, the fire department was alerted to a smoke alarm and smell of smoke in a multi-family building on Hüttenstraße in Erkrath-Hochdahl. The operation ended at 16:15, and all other residents were able to return to their apartments after the work was completed.

Another incident was reported at 12:21, an oil leak from a truck on Schildsheider Straße. However, no oil leak was found on site.

In relation to the incidents on Schildsheider Straße, the Fire Department Erkrath issued a warning about the dangers of unattended cooking and defective electrical devices. A breathing apparatus team found an active stove in the kitchen of the affected apartment, but as the apartment was not smoked, the operation was concluded quickly. The affected apartment is currently uninhabitable, and the resident is temporarily staying with acquaintances.

Functional smoke detectors can save lives in case of a fire, according to the Fire Department Erkrath. The department encourages residents to check their smoke detectors regularly and replace them if necessary.
