Emergency responders from THW Bayern are being dispatched to the affected region of Saarland due to the flood crisis.
The Bavarian branch of the Technical Relief (THW) organisation, known for its experienced volunteers and realistic disaster preparedness drills, is sending approximately 50 deployment forces specialized in flood disasters to the disaster-stricken region of Saarland today.
These volunteers, part of THW's nationwide network of over 88,000 individuals, with half being deployment forces, are renowned for their expertise in civil protection. The THW Landesverband Bayern, the regional association in Bavaria, is leading this operation.
The deployment includes three specialist groups for water damage/pumps, one specialist group for electrical supply, and a squad troop. They are travelling with up to seven trucks and three truck trailers, equipped with large-capacity pumps capable of pumping 25,000 liters per minute, and a 175 kVA emergency power plant to provide an independent power supply in the disaster area.
The electrical supply group will ensure power is available in the disaster area, feeding power into switchgear rooms to maintain critical infrastructure in crisis situations.
THW is a highly sought-after partner for fire services, police, aid organisations, and others due to its specialist knowledge and diverse experiences. The organisation's work in civil protection is founded on the commitment of these volunteers.
