Emergency shelters at high altitudes, numbering twelve, have been set up in Romania's Bucegi Mountains.
The Romanian authorities have taken a significant step towards enhancing safety for hikers and climbers in high-altitude areas with the installation of the first of 12 planned mountain emergency shelters in the Bucegi Mountains.
The shelter, located at an altitude of 2,350 meters at the entrance to Cerdacul Văii Cărbunării, on the route to Omu Peak, is yet to be officially opened to the public. Its installation, carried out with the help of a Black Hawk helicopter and mountain rescue teams from Prahova county, marks the start of a program aimed at improving safety for those venturing into the mountains.
Each shelter will be equipped with essential items such as two beds, solar-powered lighting, drinking water, a first-aid kit, sanitation facilities, and electric heating, making it a secure point of shelter for people in distress. For emergencies, the shelters will also feature an alarm connected to the national 112 system.
Access to these shelters will be controlled by code to prevent misuse. The shelters will undergo regular safety inspections, according to DSU, although the name of the person leading the DSU in Romania was not disclosed in the search results.
Once operational, these shelters will serve as vital points of refuge for those in need, providing a lifeline in the event of an emergency. The installation of these shelters is a testament to the Romanian authorities' commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of those who choose to explore the majestic Bucegi Mountains.
This initiative is a positive step towards enhancing safety for hikers and climbers, and we look forward to the completion and operation of the remaining 11 shelters in the near future.
