Enhanced Roadway Control Measures and Limitations Introduced
The Autobahn GmbH, the company responsible for managing the traffic on the A4 between Cologne-Klettenberg and Cologne-Eifeltor, has announced new traffic management measures due to the increasing damage to the DB crossing structure "Eifeltor."
The measures, which include night restrictions, will be in effect for the next two weekends to protect the structure. Heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes will be directed to the right in both directions.
The "Eifeltor" bridge crosses the A4 over the tracks of Deutsche Bahn in the area of the Cologne-Eifeltor marshalling yard. Due to space constraints, a speed limit of 40 km/h will be enforced on the structure.
On the night of Friday 4/5.4. from 21:00 to 05:00, the exit and entry of the A4 in the direction of Olpe at the Cologne-Klettenberg junction will be closed. On the night of Saturday 5/6.4. from 21:00 to 09:00, the A4 in the direction of Olpe between the Cologne-Klettenberg and Cologne-Eifeltor junctions will be reduced to one lane.
The A4 in the direction of Aachen will be reduced to one lane on the nights of Friday 11/12.4. and Saturday 12/13.4. between the Cologne-Eifeltor and Cologne-Klettenberg junctions. These restrictions are necessary to ensure the safety of the "Eifeltor" bridge.
In addition to the night restrictions, there may be occasional daytime restrictions such as short-term lane closures due to mobile construction sites before the night restrictions. These closures are intended to prepare for the night restrictions.
The "Eifeltor" bridge was built in 1956 and widened in 1988. In 1993, a further parallel structure was added for the lane running in the direction of Aachen between the Cologne-Eifeltor and Cologne-Klettenberg junctions.
Despite the search results, the name of the responsible person or head of the Autobahn GmbH branch Rheinland who manages the traffic diversion on the A4 between Cologne-Klettenberg and Cologne-Eifeltor was not provided.
Despite these challenges, two out of three lanes will be available to road users in both directions, ensuring that the impact on traffic flow is minimised as much as possible. The measure aims to protect the DB crossing structure "Eifeltor" and maintain the safety of road users.
