Enhancing mobile connectivity in Altenburg, telecom firms make significant strides
Deutsche Telekom is pushing ahead with mobile network expansion in Altenburger Land, a move driven by the increasing demand for bandwidth, which is growing by around 30% per year, according to Georg von Wagner, spokesperson for Deutsche Telekom.
The company currently operates 38 mobile sites in Altenburger Land, making it the company with the best mobile network in Germany, according to specialist magazines Chip, connect, ComputerBild, and Imtest. This extensive network coverage has now reached nearly 100% of the population in Altenburger Land, ensuring almost everyone has access to mobile internet.
Steffen Ludwig, the District Administrator (Landrat) of Altenburger Land, presented the mobile network expansion plans for the next three years. These plans include the addition of three new sites in Altenburger Land. Deutsche Telekom is also planning to expand nine existing mobile sites with LTE or 5G technology.
Deutsche Funkturm, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, builds the mobile sites for the telecommunications giant. Landlords who lease areas for new mobile sites receive a long-term, location-based rent. Interested parties can offer a site for a rooftop or mast site by contacting Deutsche Funkturm at www.dfmg.de/standortangebot.
The mobile network expansion has resulted in improved coverage along the Saxon-West railway line and a mobile internet coverage area that has increased to 96% in Altenburger Land. The mobile sites in the district support the emergency call technology Advanced Mobile Location (AML) and the warning system Cell Broadcast.
In case of emergency calls to 112, the caller's location is automatically transmitted to the emergency control center thanks to AML. Cell Broadcast sends danger messages to mobile phones in the affected radio cell, for example, in case of major fires, gas explosions, or floods. Emergency calls and warnings are possible at all mobile network sites in Altenburger Land.
Deutsche Telekom is continuing to expand its mobile network due to increasing demand for bandwidth. The company relies on cooperation with municipalities or owners to lease areas for new sites. The availability of mobile networks in other districts can be found at www.telekom.de/netzausbau.
