Enterprise software giant SAP unveils HANA as an option for integrating with enterprise applications.

SAP, a leading enterprise software company, has made a significant move by expanding the use of its HANA database platform to include business applications such as ERP, CRM, and SCM. This strategic decision represents an opportunity for SAP to potentially generate future revenue growth by venturing into the database layer of the software stack.

Adrian Simpson, Senior Vice President and Executive Advisor at SAP, as well as the chief innovation officer of SAP UK and Ireland, explained the change in a statement to our platform. According to Simpson, the change allows data-intensive processes and transactions to be performed much faster, thanks to HANA's in-memory database technology.

The new development means that a company could compile an end of year financial report from multiple data sources in vastly reduced time using the new HANA-supported Business Suite applications. This is made possible by SAP's rewriting of the Business Suite applications to allow some data processing to take place by HANA at the database layer.

HANA's ability to process data faster is due to its enhanced capabilities in data integration and data processing. This speed advantage is claimed to compare favorably to existing database platforms such as IBM's DB2 and Oracle's database software.

Moreover, the pricing of HANA is said to be competitive, with SAP including HANA database pricing as a proportion of per-user license cost for customers that choose to use HANA. This move could eliminate the need for a separate data warehouse for reporting and analytics, as business applications can now perform analytical operations faster than conventional systems with the help of HANA.

SAP's HANA database, launched in 2011, was initially only available for use with the company's analytics products, data warehouse offering, and some niche applications. However, with this latest development, the platform is now open to a wider range of applications.

As SAP continues to innovate and expand its offerings, businesses can look forward to more sophisticated analytical functionality being built into SAP's applications with HANA. This could lead to improved efficiency, faster decision-making, and ultimately, a competitive edge in today's fast-paced business environment.
