Escalating interest in career counseling services

In the heart of Kassel, a significant event is unfolding. Today, Carina Wetekam, a 10th-grader at the Gustav-Heinemann School, is set to attend her first job interview. But this isn't an ordinary interview; it's part of a unique project designed to help young people like Carina navigate the real-world application process.

The project, known as the "Professional Mentors" project, has been an active part of the organisation since 2008. Sponsored by the non-profit employment promotion association in the organisation mbH, it aims to pass on professional knowledge and life experience to support young people in their search for training places. The project is funded by the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration.

Bernhard Boss and Ernst Blömeke, with decades of professional experience, are the professional mentors conducting Carina's interview. These mentors play the role of the employer during the interview, providing honest and respectful feedback, as well as valuable tips for a convincing appearance in the real application process.

The project extends its reach to seven general and vocational schools, offering application training to a diverse group of young people. Most of these young people are already in training, while some are still looking for a training place. The project also supports young people, often with migration or refugee backgrounds, in their transition from school to work.

Interested parties can contact coordinator Brigitte Vogler at Tel.: 0561-1003 1275 or Email: [email protected]. The project is always seeking more life- and work-experienced volunteers from the city and the organisation.

In a related initiative, the non-profit employment promotion association offers regular meetings for the exchange of experiences, Stammtische, and further training to support the mentors. The mentors also receive compensation for expenses.

Another initiative worth mentioning is the "Tandems für eine Zeit" project in Hofgeismar, where retired professionals currently support 21 young people in their transition from school to work. A total of 21 young people are currently being accompanied by mentors in this project. The mentors are integrated into a well-organised and professionally supervised network.
