In the heart of Germany, the state capital of Wiesbaden is taking significant steps to address mental health issues and suicide prevention. The city participates in the nationwide World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, aiming to raise awareness and promote effective prevention methods.

Every day, around 28 people in Germany lose their lives to suicide, a stark reminder of the urgency to address this pressing issue. Many of these cases involve personal stories, affected families, and silent suffering, making it crucial to destigmatize mental health issues and encourage early recognition and support.

Wiesbaden offers a variety of services to support those affected by mental challenges. The Psychosocial Centers Ost, Mitte, Süd, and the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy provide psychosocial services, retreat spaces, and understandable information to help individuals cope with their struggles.

The Psychosocial Center Ost, located at Kaiser-Friedrich-Ring 88, can be reached at (0611) 505894444 or psz-pskb.evim.de. For those aged 18 and above, the Social Psychiatry Service (SpDi) and the Coordination Community Psychiatry at the Health Department offer further services. The SpDi supports people in difficult life situations, those with mental illness, and substance abuse, and also advises relatives, friends, neighbours, and more. The SpDi can be reached at telephone (0611) 312819 or spdi.our website.de.

The city also offers numerous self-help groups for those affected by mental challenges and their relatives. The self-help contact point of the Wiesbaden health department can be reached at Phone (0611) 313777 or our website.

In light of the increasing number of suicide deaths in Germany, with over 10,000 in 2023, it is essential to understand suicide prevention as a societal task. Education about suicide can save lives by lowering the barrier to seeking help. The World Health Organization (WHO) underscores this importance.

Citizens can contact the responsible department or office of the state capital Wiesbaden with any questions. The press office of the state capital Wiesbaden, located at Schlossplatz 6, 65183 Wiesbaden, can be reached at our website.

By taking these steps, Wiesbaden aims to provide low-threshold support services, such as retreat spaces, psychosocial services, understandable information, and inclusion in daily life, to help those in need and provide relief.
