On September 10th, the state capital of Wiesbaden is participating in the nationwide action day for World Suicide Prevention Day. This day serves as a reminder of the urgent need for suicide prevention measures, as approximately 28 people die by suicide daily in Germany.

In response, the city of Wiesbaden is offering a range of resources to those in mental crisis or concerned about someone. The press office of the state capital Wiesbaden has published a press release detailing these resources.

For immediate support, individuals can contact the nationwide telephone counseling service "Telefonseelsorge" (0800 1110111), which provides anonymous support for people in psychological crises, including those with invisible disabilities and suicide risk. Wiesbaden also provides emergency medical services.

In addition to this, the city promotes awareness through events like the World Suicide Prevention Day.

Three Psychosocial Centers in Wiesbaden are available: Psychosocial Center Mitte, Psychosocial Center Süd, and Psychosocial Center Ost. These centers offer low-threshold support services such as retreat spaces, psychosocial services, understandable information, and inclusion in daily life, which can provide relief.

Further offers for those aged 18 and above are available through the Social Psychiatric Service (SpDi) and the Coordination of Community Psychiatry at the Health Department in Wiesbaden.

The World Health Organization (WHO) demands that suicide prevention be understood as a societal task. Education about suicide can save lives by reducing the barrier to seeking help. Many self-help groups offer services for those affected by mental challenges and their relatives. Contact the self-help contact point of the Wiesbaden health department at (0611) 313777 or the health promotion website.

It's important to note that many individuals who die by suicide have not received a confirmed diagnosis, help was sought too late, or faced access barriers. Suicide is a leading cause of death in many age groups, particularly among young people. People with invisible disabilities, such as autism, ADHD, depression, FASD, or chronic neurological disorders, are often at particular risk.

Vitos Clinic Eichberg, Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Kloster-Eberbach-Straße 4, and the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the HELIOS Dr. Horst Schmidt Clinics, Ludwig-Erhard-Straße 100, are psychiatric clinics with 24/7 availability in Wiesbaden.
