European Parliament Elections: "Alexander Schweitzer's Journey" in Mainz - Wine and Dine with the Prime Minister at Gutenberg Square
Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany - Alexander Schweitzer, the newly appointed Minister President, has launched a dialogue series as part of the state election campaign for the March 2026 state election. The tour, titled "Alexander Schweitzer Unterwegs," will take Schweitzer across various locations in Rhineland-Palatinate until late October 2025.
The dialogue series aims to engage directly with people in their communities, learn their thoughts, and demonstrate approachability. The tour, which includes stops in Koblenz, Kaiserslautern, and Daaden, among other places, is set to extend beyond Mainz, where Schweitzer is scheduled to meet voters on Gutenbergplatz on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
During the event in Mainz, Schweitzer will be accompanied by Finance Minister Doris Ahnen, Interior Minister Michael Ebling, and SPD district candidate Patric Müller. The Minister President has also announced that wine will be served during the event in Mainz.
The state election campaign has commenced earlier than ever, and parties are focusing on meet-and-greet events during the campaign. This is not the first event in Schweitzer's tour; he has already visited Bad Kreuznach Kornmarkt. The kick-off event of Schweitzer's tour attracted over 300 guests.
In a survey by SWR, conducted in July 2024, 55 percent of Rhineland-Palatinate residents were unfamiliar with Alexander Schweitzer, and only 18 percent considered him a suitable candidate. However, Schweitzer took over the office from Malu Dreyer (SPD) in July 2024, marking his first term as Minister President.
The Rhineland-Palatinate state election will elect a new state parliament on March 22, 2026. The event dates from the parties and candidates for the March 2026 state election will be shared periodically on our website. Stay tuned for more updates on the state election campaign.
