The ongoing talks between US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and European states regarding the resolution of the war in Ukraine have received a warm welcome from Bundestag Vice-President Omid Nouripour.

Nouripour believes that if there are security guarantees as part of a concrete plan during negotiations, Germany should not stand aside. However, he cautions against false expectations and sees Germany as responsible for any security guarantees for Kyiv.

The American Secretary of State Marco Rubio has discussed the idea of Western security guarantees for Ukraine, but Nouripour considers it premature and unclear what that means reliably. He emphasizes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is the one who must decide on the plans for his country alone, without Western influence.

Nouripour believes that Ukraine's self-determination includes the free choice of alliances, even after the Trump presidency. He also warns against so-called territorial concessions, stating that a complete takeover of Donetsk by Russia and the dismantling of all Ukrainian positions there would be a dramatic security situation.

Nouripour is also of the opinion that Kyiv would not agree to a plan that essentially no longer allows Ukraine to defend deep into the country. He believes that US President Trump had ruled out NATO membership for Ukraine, but notes that there is a time after Trump.

In addition, Nouripour stresses the importance of Europe's ability to support Ukraine without the American side, with what is possible. He believes that Europe must be prepared to stand on its own in ensuring Ukraine's security and sovereignty.

The talks are a significant step towards finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. With the input and support of key players like Nouripour, there is hope for a peaceful and secure future for the country.
