Expansion of BioInnovationsCenter Dresden: BioZ 2 to Open by End of 2025
The BioInnovationsCenter Dresden is set to grow with the construction of its new expansion, BioZ 2. This new addition will provide approximately 4,100 square meters of space for the life sciences industry in Dresden.
The BioZ 2 is an expansion of the BioInnovationsCenter Dresden, which was opened on Tatzberg around 20 years ago. Construction of the shell for the BioZ 2 began in November 2023, with the groundbreaking ceremony taking place recently. The center is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.
The BioZ 2 will offer laboratories, workshops, clean rooms, and offices for startups and growing SMEs on four floors. This expansion is timely, as the capacities of the existing center on Tatzberg are fully utilized.
The construction of the BioZ 2 has been made possible with the help of third-party funds. Additional funding for the BioZ 2 will be provided in the form of third-party funds, with contributions from the GRW infrastructure funds amounting to 6.7 million euros. The Free State of Saxony and the European Union have also provided additional third-party funds totaling 10.2 million euros. The total cost of the BioZ 2 construction is around 18 million euros.
The BioZ 2 will be located near the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus. The TechnologyCenter Dresden GmbH, which manages 539 companies in the industry, will be responsible for the management of the BioZ 2. Currently, the TechnologyCenter Dresden GmbH has 190 tenants in the existing "BioZ".
The creation of the BioZ 2 is expected to have a significant impact on employment in the region. Approximately 6,200 jobs have been created directly through the settlement of diverse companies in the "BioZ". The BioZ 2 is expected to contribute to this employment figure, providing opportunities for growth and development in the life sciences industry in Dresden.
