In a significant ruling, a federal court has determined that the Trump administration's attempt to freeze and withdraw billions in funding from Harvard University was unlawful. The dispute, which involved approximately $2.2 billion (€1.9 billion), arose due to the administration's accusations of a left-leaning bias and insufficient measures against antisemitism at Harvard.

The court ruling stated that there was little connection between the affected research projects at Harvard and antisemitism. Judge Allison Burroughs, who presided over the case, described the administration's actions as a "targeted, ideologically motivated attack" on leading universities.

Harvard sued the administration in response to the funding freeze, and Judge Burroughs acknowledged that the university could have done more to combat antisemitism. However, she did not find the administration's actions to be justified, as there was little connection between the funding freeze and the issue of antisemitism at Harvard.

The research projects that were subject to the funding freeze were not found to be related to antisemitism. The authority that renewed the release of the approximately 2.2 billion US dollars to Harvard University was the Biden administration.

This ruling marks a significant victory for Harvard University, as it ensures the continuation of crucial research projects that were threatened by the Trump administration's actions. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the principles of academic freedom and neutrality in the face of political pressure.
