"EverydayTest Kick-off Celebration: Promoting Fitness and Aging Gracefully"

On Monday, September 1, 2020, Wiesbaden Town Hall will play host to the "Active and Fit for Life" event, marking the start of a new permanent offer for everyday fitness tests in various Wiesbaden districts. This event, aimed at senior citizens, is a chance for individuals to test their fitness levels and learn about sports activities available in the city.

The day's proceedings will kick off at noon and continue until 5 PM. From 12 to 2:30 PM, visitors can participate in various sports activities on the Schlossplatz and engage in conversations at information booths. The event will feature six stations of the Wiesbaden Sports Circle in the Town Hall, where attendees can test their everyday fitness.

Angelika Dortmann, chairperson of the Senior Council, will open the event. Speeches will be given by Social Affairs Commissioner Dr. Patricia Becher and Sports Commissioner Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff from the Hessian Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration. The importance of movement for maintaining health will be emphasized, and encouragement will be given to engage in physical activity.

Three expert lectures will follow, presented by Dr. Volker Cihlar, Karsten Schütze, and Dr. Christoph Rott. These lectures will discuss the benefits of exercise as a solution to inactivity-related illness, the universal remedy for which is movement. The speakers will also highlight that many people work, travel, and live in ways that contribute to inactivity, and that alternatives to regular sports hours include exercising at home and in nature.

Inactivity can be harmful to one's health, and prolonged inactivity can lead to illness. Exercise is an important investment in a good life in old age, as stated by Social Affairs Commissioner Dr. Patricia Becher. The event "Active and fit for life" is free to attend and is organized by sports clubs and carriers of elderly care.

At 3 PM, the official program will begin in the City Council Chamber. This will include further discussions on the importance of movement and the various ways it can be incorporated into daily life.

The "Active and fit for life" event is a great opportunity for senior citizens in Wiesbaden to get active, learn about local sports activities, and improve their fitness levels. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just starting out, this event is sure to have something for everyone. So, mark your calendars for September 1 and come join the movement towards a healthier and more active life!
