Examination day at Offenbach's latest rail hub, "Station Mitte" - Glimpses into its new architecture and operations.
On December 7th, the city of Offenbach invites its citizens to an open house event showcasing the future "Station Mitte." This exciting event will take place from 11 am to 6 pm, offering a unique opportunity to explore the transformation of the former Kaufhof building in the city's pedestrian zone.
Hosted by Station Mitte GmbH, a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Offenbach, the open house event aims to inform citizens and generate enthusiasm for the project. By 2026, the building will house the city library, retail spaces, and a café, making it a modern meeting, culture, and learning center for all age groups in Offenbach.
Guided tours of the ground floor will take place every full hour, providing visitors with interactive insights and hands-on activities. A book island, a participation wall, and a "Makerspace" real lab featuring technologies like a 3D printer and an embroidery machine are just a few of the attractions. Young guests will also enjoy a special hands-on program designed especially for them.
To accommodate the expected interest, a maximum of 199 people can be in the building at the same time, which may lead to waiting times. Visitors are encouraged to dress warmly and wear sturdy footwear with thick soles, as the building is currently unheated.
The event will also feature a short film, which will provide information about the plans for the project. The film will include appearances from the Mayor, City Treasurer, and City Library Director. Refreshments will also be available, with visitors able to purchase coffee and cake, mimicking the planned café at Station Mitte.
No registration is required for the open house event. Citizens are advised to check their inbox or spam folder to confirm their subscription to the free newsletter for updates on future events and developments regarding Station Mitte.
The renovation of the former Kaufhof building is part of the broader urban development and revitalization projects for the city center, supervised and led by the city's magistrate. This event is a chance for Offenbach's residents to get a sneak peek into the future of their city. So, mark your calendars for December 7th and join the city in celebrating the transformation of the former Kaufhof building into the vibrant, modern "Station Mitte."
