The team has had mixed results in their pre-season friendlies. They secured a convincing 10-0 victory against the Moskitos in Essen, but suffered a 1-2 loss against Schwenningen. However, they managed to win an official test game against the Sauerlanders 5-2 and a subsequent secret test between the two teams ended 4-2 in favour of DEG.
DEG also had a close call against HC Thurgau, winning the game 4-3 on penalties. This sets the stage for an exciting opening game of the DEL season, as DEG will host Bremerhaven to begin the new campaign.
