Fritz Koenig, a 20th-century significant sculptor, was born on June 20, 1924. In a remarkable tribute to his legacy, a major exhibition titled "Fritz Koenig in Italy" will be opened in Venice on his 100th anniversary, June 20, 2024.

Koenig's artistic work was significantly influenced by the artistic heritage of Rome, having been a scholarship holder at the Villa Massimo in Rome from 1957. This connection with Italy is evident in his exhibitions, as he exhibited at the XXIX Biennale in the German Pavilion in Venice in 1958.

The upcoming exhibition aims to bring Koenig and his work to an international audience, showcasing his artistic journey and his impact on contemporary sculpture. The event will take place during the 60th Biennale, a prestigious platform for art and culture.

Preparations for the exhibition are being made by the Landshut KOENIGmuseum and the Fritz-and-Maria-Koenig Foundation. The foundation is also seeking sponsors for museological presentations of Koenig's work in the context of digital humanities.

The Fritz-and-Maria-Koenig Foundation has launched a new website (www.koenig-stiftung.de) and Instagram account for public access to new projects and initiatives. The new platform contains extensive photographic material, offering a glimpse into Koenig's life and work.

In addition to the exhibition, the foundation is driving the initiation and content support of scientific works on Koenig. One such project is a master's thesis on "Sculptures as Ambassadors? Fritz Koenig's Works for the German Embassies in Madrid, Dakar, and London".

Moreover, the city of Landshut and the Fritz-and-Maria-Koenig Foundation are collaborating on a sustainable usage concept for Koenig's property in the Altdorfer district of Ganslberg. Regular discussions are being held with potential project partners regarding the sustainable usage concept.

The foundation is actively approaching further partners for museological presentations of Koenig's work. Potential partners include museums, cultural institutions, and exhibition organizers interested in contemporary sculpture and Koenig's artistic legacy.

On the occasion of his 100th birthday, Fritz Koenig and his works will return to Italy and Venice, marking a fitting celebration of his life and contribution to the world of art. The exhibition promises to be a significant event, offering insights into the life and works of this influential sculptor.
