Expanded bus services in Baden-Württemberg region
The state of Baden-Württemberg has taken a significant step towards improving regional traffic for passengers with the introduction of several new Regional Bus lines. These buses, collectively known as the bwegt family, are part of an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable and climate-friendly mobility.
One of the newest additions to the bwegt family is the Lörrach-EuroAirport Regional Bus line, which began operation on December 15, 2024. This international bus line, approximately 20 kilometers long, takes 50 minutes to complete and runs every hour from 5 am to 12 pm on weekdays, with adjusted hours on weekends. The line is funded by the country with over 1.6 million euros for the next three years.
Another notable addition is the Schorndorf-Welzheim Regional Bus line, which connects Welzheim to the S-Bahn network of the Stuttgart Metropolitan Region. The 16-kilometer route takes 26 minutes, and the bus runs every half hour in sync with the S-Bahn, and every 15 minutes during peak hours. The line is funded by the country with nearly 3.5 million euros over the next five years.
The Herrenberg-Calw Regional Bus line, funded by the country with nearly 2.8 million euros for operation and promotion over the next five years, will begin operation on New Year's Day. The line, approximately 23 kilometers long, takes 39 minutes to complete and runs every hour from 5 am to 12 pm on weekdays, with adjusted hours on weekends.
Bwegt collaborates with regional railway companies and other partners to ensure seamless integration of these bus lines into the existing transportation network. Many of the modern and comfortable buses operate in the white-yellow-grey bwegt design, making them easily recognisable.
The Ministry of Transport has a Press Office and a Contact Form for citizens to stay informed about these initiatives and any updates. In this year's funding period, the state is committing around 29 million euros for regiobus lines.
Additionally, seven more regiobus projects were extended within the program in 2024, further enhancing the state's commitment to sustainable and efficient public transportation.
For those seeking more information or looking to utilise these new Regional Bus lines, the Ministry of Transport's Press Office and Contact Form are valuable resources. The bwegt initiative continues to work towards improving near and regional traffic for passengers, making travel more convenient, sustainable, and accessible.
