The Phoenix Mercury extended their winning streak to five games on September 2, 2025, with a hard-fought victory over the Indiana Fever at PHX Arena. The final score was 85-79 in favour of the Mercury.

Despite the loss, the Fever remain in contention for a playoff spot, having three games left in the regular season. Aliyah Boston scored 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Fever, while Lexie Hull contributed 15 points and five rebounds.
The game was not without its drama. Kahleah Copper, a key player for the Fever, left the game with a foot injury but returned later. The Fever mounted a late drive, but the Mercury held on to secure the victory.
The win lifted the Mercury's record to 26-14, while the Fever slipped to 19-21. The Mercury's success in the game was particularly impressive given that several of their players were sidelined with injuries, including Chloe Bibby, Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, and Sophie Cunningham.
Several Phoenix Sun players, including Devin Booker, Jalen Green, and Dillion Brooks, were spotted courtside during the game, showing their support for the Mercury. The Mercury improved to 13-0 in games where at least five players scored double digits, a testament to their balanced offensive approach.
Star rookie Caitlin Clark, who has been sidelined with a groin injury, missed her 19th straight game and has no confirmed return date. The Fever will be hoping for her return as they continue their push for the playoffs.
