Expansion of operations announced by Whoosh in Latin America
In a recent financial report, ride-sharing company Whoosh shared updates on their performance in various regions, with a particular focus on Latin America and their plans for expansion in Germany.
In Latin America, where Whoosh currently operates in Brazil and Chile with over 10,000 electric scooters and bicycles, the number of trips has seen a significant growth of 169%. This surge brought the total number of trips to 5.7 million, yet the average usage remains lower than in other regions, with users making an average of 7.4 trips compared to 13 in other regions where Whoosh is present.
Despite the lower frequency of use, the company's revenue in Latin America for the first half of 2025 has nearly tripled compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 928 million rubles. Interestingly, the average revenue per trip in the region is 1.9 times higher than the average in Russia and the CIS.
However, the total revenue decreased by 14.7% to 5.4 billion rubles, primarily due to a decrease in trips in Russia, attributable to weather conditions and macroeconomic factors. This decline also led to a decrease in profitability, as the EBITDA fell to 1 billion rubles (-63.6% year-on-year). The net loss for the period was 1.9 billion rubles.
On a positive note, the company's audience in Latin America has grown by 26% to 30.5 million users. In an effort to further boost this growth, Whoosh plans to expand its fleet in the region by at least doubling it by the end of 2025.
Looking ahead, Whoosh will also be expanding into the "new federal states" in Germany in 2025. While the exact names of these states are not specified in the search results, the company has announced its intention to develop new locations in these regions.
This strategic move comes as part of Whoosh's continued global expansion, aiming to bring their sustainable transportation solutions to more cities around the world.
