Experimenting with Air-Conditioned Shirts: A New Trend in Personal Cooling?
The Reon Pocket, Sony's innovative personal wearable cooler, is currently making waves in Japan, but its availability outside of the country remains uncertain. This compact device, designed to regulate body temperature, is not available for purchase outside of Japan at this time.
General sales of the Reon Pocket commenced on July 1, and it can be purchased through Sony's official online store in Japan. The device, priced at approximately $172 (18,500 Yen), features a built-in fan for temperature regulation. It generates heat or cools by measuring temperature through a thermocouple circuit and absorbing or releasing heat accordingly.
While the Reon Pocket is not yet available to U.S. buyers, those in need of temperature control might consider a portable air conditioner as an alternative. Interestingly, a portable air conditioner currently available on Amazon is offering a 40% discount.
Courtney Linder, a technology reporter previously with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, has been following the development of the Reon Pocket. However, it remains unclear when or if the Reon Pocket will be made available to U.S. buyers.
The Reon Pocket's lithium-ion battery lasts between 2 to 4 hours and takes about 2.5 hours to recharge via a USB-C-style port. With its unique design and temperature-regulating capabilities, the Reon Pocket is undoubtedly a promising innovation in wearable technology.
For now, potential buyers outside of Japan will have to wait and see if the Reon Pocket expands its reach to other markets. In the meantime, portable air conditioners might provide a temporary solution for those seeking temperature control.
