New Nature Trail Opens in Lübeck City Forest

The Hanseatic City of Lübeck has unveiled a new 2.8-kilometer nature trail in the northern Lauerholz, inviting young and old to discover the unique natural landscape of the Lübeck City Forest. The trail, designed for young people and adults aged 16 and above, was realised as a gift for Lübeck on the 200th anniversary of the Sparkasse.

The nature trail, unlike the Rittbrook trail, offers tasks and experiments rather than games. It aims to explain the processes and phenomena of natural forest development, focusing on topics such as climate protection, biodiversity, and the role model function for management.

Frank Schumacher, chairman of the board of the Lübeck Sparkassen-Stiftung, worked in collaboration with the city of Lübeck and representatives of environmental education and forest and adventure pedagogy to develop this new nature trail in a specific region. The trail consists of a loop trail with eight stations, starting at Waldstraße in Israelsdorf, and a sensory trail.

Visitors to the trail will be accompanied by an owl, which provides comments, raises questions, and offers information. The trail includes a companion guide in comic style and terrain boards with decoupled comic passages.

The Lübeck Sparkassen Foundation supports many different out-of-school learning locations in Lübeck, and the opening of the nature trail is a testament to their commitment to education and the environment. The Hanseatic City of Lübeck thanks the Lübeck Sparkassen Foundation for its support in implementing the demanding concept.

The second theme trail in the Lübeck City Forest runs through the reference area in the north of the Lauerholz. The trail leads visitors through the forest for a large part, providing a special nature experience. The nature trail's design is based on the Rittbrook trail but adapted for an older target group (from 16 years).

The goal of the nature trail is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural forest and its development processes. The trail is open to all, and visitors are encouraged to explore and learn at their own pace.

The new nature trail was opened at the beginning of October, and it is already proving to be a popular destination for those seeking a unique and educational experience in the heart of the Lübeck City Forest.
