Explosion in Ehrenstraße Followed by EC Merger Success; Potential Suspects Identified in Netherlands
In a significant development, the perpetrator behind the arson attack on a business in Cologne's city centre on 18 September 2025 has been identified. The 18-year-old individual is currently in custody in a Dutch prison for another offense.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m. at a clothing store on Ehrenstraße, resulting in significant property damage. The arson attack caused a major stir in the city, with the Public Prosecutor's Office and Police Cologne making an announcement about the ongoing investigation.
The suspect is facing charges of reckless endangerment and property damage, with a possible sentence of up to five years in prison. The case is currently before the Cologne Regional Court.
Initial reports suggested that the financial demands were not directed against the owner of the business but against persons from the surrounding area. The act is suspected to be linked to the enforcement of as-yet undetermined financial demands.
