Explosive device discovered in Jülich safely defused
In the heart of Jülich, Germany, on Monday, 8th September 2025, a bomb scare unfolded. The bomb, weighing a substantial 250 kilograms, was discovered in the Schützenstraße / Ecke Schirmerstraße area.
The unexpected find led to an immediate evacuation of a nearby nursing home and other buildings within a 300-meter radius. Approximately 3500 people were affected by the evacuation.
The city center, once bustling with activity, was suddenly deserted as residents were asked to vacate their homes and businesses. The affected area included key locations such as the nursing home.
However, the city authorities stepped up to the challenge. On Monday evening, experienced explosive ordnance disposal specialists ("Kampfmittelräumer"), Michael Daenecke and his colleague Martin Bartels, along with support from the Technical Relief Organization (THW), successfully defused the bomb.
With the bomb now safely neutralised, residents can gradually return to their homes. The city center, though still showing signs of the recent events, is slowly regaining its vibrant spirit.
This incident serves as a reminder of the city's resilience and the dedication of its authorities in ensuring the safety of its citizens.
