Facility Information: Parker Hannifin - McCook, Nebraska - Data Summary (February 2018)
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a public comment period for the Proposed Final Corrective Measures at the Parker Hannifin facility in McCook, Nebraska. The comment period runs from February 28, 2018, through March 30, 2018.
The Parker Hannifin facility, located at 400 South Street, has been manufacturing automotive belts and hoses since 1971. However, environmental investigations have identified contaminants such as tetrachloroethene, trichloroethene, 1,1-dichloroethene, and 1,4-dioxane in groundwater at the site.
To address this issue, the EPA proposes groundwater monitoring and land-use controls for the facility. These measures aim to mitigate the health risk posed by these contaminants. The proposed land-use controls will prohibit residential development and the use of groundwater as a potable water source at the facility.
The public is encouraged to express their views on the Proposed Final Remedy. This includes whether they support or disagree with the recommendation and any alternative suggestions. The public can review EPA's Statement of Basis and investigation reports regarding the Parker Hannifin facility at the McCook Public Library and EPA Region 7 Records Center.
The McCook Public Library is located at 802 Norris Avenue, McCook, NE 69001, and can be contacted at 1-308-345-1906. The EPA Region 7 Records Center is located at 11201 Renner Boulevard, Lenexa, KS 66219, and can be contacted at 1-800-223-0425.

If there is sufficient public interest and the EPA finds that a hearing will contribute to the decision-making process, a formal public hearing will be held. To request a public hearing, contact Bruce Morrison at the provided email address.
It is important to note that the proposed controls for the facility will require that soils disturbed at the facility be characterized for potential contaminants prior to handling and removal from the property. EPA will make the remedy final after the public comment period ends and all comments are reviewed. The agency may modify the proposed remedy or choose another one based on any new information and comments from the public.
The public is invited to participate in this process and contribute to the safety and well-being of the McCook community. For more information, visit the EPA's website or contact the provided contacts.
