Fake video circulating online, depicting a train plunging into the Ganga river near Patna, is fabricated and not authentic.
The internet has been abuzz with a viral video showing a train collapsing and submerging into the Ganga River near Patna. However, the Public Information Bureau (PIB) has clarified that this video is not authentic and does not depict any real incident.
The video, which has been widely shared on social media, was confirmed to be AI-generated using Google's SynthID tool. The train bogies in the video do not resemble those of Indian Railways, and the language written on the train and on the media microphones is unrecognisable.
Furthermore, the train accident depicted in the video is a fabrication. No such event took place in reality, and no train accident in the Ganga in Patna has been reported. At one point, a person standing at the train door in the video appears to become invisible, and the video shows several inconsistencies and unnatural elements, such as people and media personnel remaining unaffected by the heavy flow of water.
The video was found to contain multiple inconsistencies, leading to doubts about its authenticity. The PIB clarified on their official handle on 26 August 2025 that the video is AI-generated and does not depict any real incident. Sharing the viral video may cause unnecessary fear and confusion, according to the PIB's clarification.
It is important to note that the video was not created by any specific individual or organization. The video allegedly shows a train collapsing into the Ganga in Patna, but no local news agencies or eyewitnesses have been officially credited for its creation.
In light of these findings, it is essential to treat the viral video with skepticism and verify the information before sharing it. The PIB's clarification serves as a reminder to be cautious of misleading content on the internet and to prioritise fact-checking and accuracy in our online activities.
