Jens Harzer, a renowned German actor, is set to make his debut at the Berliner Ensemble this Saturday, 6th September. Harzer, originally from Wiesbaden, has garnered acclaim for his roles in popular series such as "Babylon Berlin" and "Tatort".

Harzer's journey in the world of theatre began during his school days, where he met a close friend who has been a constant collaborator in his acting career. This friend, ten years his senior, was an assistant at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden. Harzer considers him the wisest and warmest person to converse about theatre with, as he possesses an exceptionally rare ability to observe and think without any ideology or prejudice.

In a unique twist, Harzer is the current bearer of the Iffland Ring, a prestigious award for the "Most Worthy" actor in the German-speaking world. The Iffland Ring was originally donated by actor August Wilhelm Iffland (1759-1814). The recipient of the Iffland Ring is decided by the previous bearer themselves, not a jury. The ring was left to Harzer in the will of the late Bruno Ganz (1941-2019).

This time around, Harzer will be performing "De Profundis", a letter by Oscar Wilde (1854-1900). Wilde, a renowned playwright and poet, was sentenced to imprisonment due to his relationships with other men. The play promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of Wilde's life and thoughts.

Before his career in acting, Harzer was an athlete. After graduating from high school, he attended drama school in Munich. Harzer has also had a stint at the Hamburger Thalia Theater. With his debut at the Berliner Ensemble, Harzer continues to add to his impressive resume in the world of theatre.

As he prepares for his debut, Harzer remains grateful for the support and guidance of his long-time friend and collaborator. Their shared passion for theatre and mutual respect for each other's craft has been instrumental in Harzer's success in the industry. This Saturday, theatre enthusiasts in Berlin will have the opportunity to witness Harzer's talent on stage, as he brings "De Profundis" to life.
