Family's emotional turmoil following €750,000 sale of sought-after Sea The Stars filly

Godolphin Acquires Promising Sea The Stars Filly for €750,000

In a significant move at the BBAG Yearling Sale in Baden-Baden, Godolphin has purchased a Sea The Stars filly for €750,000. The acquisition was made over the phone by Anthony Stroud, with Klaus Eulenberger, BBAG director, instructed to make the decisive increase.

The filly, who held a special place in the affections of her previous owner, Gregor Baum from Brummerhof, is the first foal out of Novemba, Germany’s champion three-year-old filly in 2021. Novemba, who won the Group 2 German 1,000 Guineas in 2021, beat Godolphin's Sky Angel by seven and a half lengths.

Baum expressed mixed feelings about the sale, expressing emotional feelings about the filly but being happy she went to a good buyer. He stated that the filly is athletic and has a lot of character. Baum also hoped that Madam Tsui, the foal share partner, was happy with the sale. Everyone in Baum's family was emotional about the sale, with the filly having a special place in their hearts.

Godolphin's buying team, determined to support the sale this year, liked the filly a lot and made the purchase. This is not Godolphin's first notable involvement at Germany’s premier yearling sale, as they secured the record-breaking top lot Del Maro last year. In addition to the Sea The Stars filly, Godolphin's buying team also purchased a Teofilo colt named Commanding Officer at the sale, which won a race on Thursday.

Klaus Eulenberger, BBAG director, expressed gratitude to Godolphin for their continued support. He stated that the sale was a testament to the quality of the horses at the BBAG Yearling Sale and the attractiveness of the event for top buyers.

The Sea The Stars filly made a promising debut at Newmarket in August, with Charlie Appleby set to train her for Godolphin. With Appleby's expertise, the filly is poised to make a significant impact in the racing world.

Godolphin's acquisition of the Sea The Stars filly marks another successful year at the BBAG Yearling Sale, and signals the team's continued commitment to finding and developing top-class talent.
