New Ownership and Trainers for Promising Horses at BBAG Yearling Sale
The BBAG Yearling Sale in Baden-Baden, Germany, has seen a flurry of activity as new owners and trainers secure promising horses for their stables. Here are some of the notable purchases and their new homes.
Helmut von Finck, who has nurtured the career of the significant stallion Soldier Hollow for 20 years, sold the last lots of the stallion at auction. One of the Soldier Hollow colts was bought by an undisclosed client from New Zealand, represented by Crispin de Moubray, for €240,000.
Another Soldier Hollow colt found a new home with Blandford Bloodstock's Stuart Boman, who purchased it from Gestut Park Wiedingen for €160,000.
Meanwhile, a Camelot colt out of the Soldier Hollow mare Alaskasonne was bought by Crispin de Moubray for a new owner from Düsseldorf. The colt, named Merlot, is a sibling to four winners, including Mendocino, who won the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Baden in 2022. Merlot will be trained by Joseph O'Brien.
Denis Cengiz purchased a half-brother to the Listed-placed Donamay, a Torquator Tasso colt, for €160,000. The colt will be trained by an undisclosed trainer.
Liberty Racing's Lars Baumgarten bought a Gleneagles colt out of the Listed-placed Big Shuffle mare Picobella for €210,000. The colt will be trained by an undisclosed trainer for Liberty Racing.
Marian Falk Weissmeier secured a Saxon Warrior colt out of Wildfahrte for €200,000. The colt will be trained by Ralph Beckett and is intended for British racing.
Alex Elliott bought a Torquator Tasso colt sibling to stakes winners Delgardo and De La Soul for €115,000. The colt will be trained by an undisclosed trainer.
One of the most exciting purchases was a Sea The Stars filly out of Novemba, who was sold for €750,000. The filly, who won the Group 2 German 1,000 Guineas in 2021, defeating Godolphin's Sky Angel by seven and a half lengths, will be trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin. The filly is the first foal out of Novemba, who was Germany's champion three-year-old filly in 2021.
Finally, the colt named Ascario, a half-brother to Brummerhof's Group 3 winner Marshmallow, was bought for an undisclosed amount. Despite being small, Ascario was considered a good buy by de Moubray. The colt will be trained by an undisclosed trainer and prepared for the Hong Kong Jockey Club's programme and 2027 International Sale.
The filly purchased by Anthony Stroud on behalf of Godolphin via phone bidding at the BBAG Yearling Sale in Baden-Baden in 2022 for €750,000, will also be trained by Charlie Appleby.
These new purchases promise an exciting future for their new owners and trainers, as they prepare for the races ahead.
